PAINT PAINT PAINT

So for the fun part! Photos!!!

First batch of family pancakes on the new range's griddle!

I found lumber for our open shelving at the Lumber & Oil Company in Cazenovia, NY. It is in the old train depot in town and is just one of those places that has been there forever. Over 100 years, but forever.

I took a little jaunt out to the barn to pick out my pieces.

We decided on 10" wide 5/4 pine. It's chunky and will be perfect for what we are doing.

The butcher block is in! Cooper approves.

Here comes the marble from Granite Works!

Our countertop is tiny, so it's only two little pieces.

There is one seam behind the sink.

They mixed a custom colored epoxy on the spot to match the marble.

Cooper soothes the guys from Granite Works with his presence.

The backsplash looks amazing!

They drilled a hole for our faucet

I'm so happy with how it all turned out. We went with an eased edge, and at the front of the sink I kept the corner square, not too rounded. We chose to have the sink undermounted with an overhang because...crumbs.  I think the countertop really completes the look we were going for...I want it to look like it has always been here, and to still look classic and timeless for another 71 years -that's how old our house is ;-) The guys from Granite Works kept saying how much they loved it, and I don't think they say that to everyone.

We have drywall to mud and sand all around where the upper cabinets were, and where we removed the soffit.

Work. In. Progress.

The original window trim is back up after some finagling. Since this photo was taken, I have patched holes and caulked it to death. It's looking better and is ready for paint.

Here is the gross pantry!!

With a new outlet! We took out all the shelves and cleaned things up.

I gave it a fresh coat of white paint and it is looking much more appealing. We have decided to use a baker's rack in here to maximize things and make it easier to maintain. Will share more of that soon!

Running water!! and a two year old who couldn't wait to "help."

Meanwhile Dave's mom has taken on the interior milk door project and has made some good progess!

A little piece of insulation to pop in the space during the colder months. (NOW)

It will be shaker style to match our cabinetry. It turns out the original door was not salvageable. This will match our cabinetry and is going to look amazing.

She also pulled a Nicole Curtis and "cooked" the original hardware and got the paint off!! (They're sitting on the old door in this photo.) I didn't think the hardware was something we could save. It it is so cool! I am excited to see how it all comes together!!

So there you have it! Kitchen progress!

  1. Oh I love it all! Especially the marble. It's so fun to watch your progress, our kitchens are so similar-this gives me hope that ours will look this good one day! Thanks for sharing. Have you decided on what back splash to use?
