Kitchen Renovation Update

Time for an update on the kitchen! I took a look back at my last kitchen post and realized we really have come a long way! I have shared updates over the months since the renovation on my Instagram, collecting them with the hashtag #meadowbrookkitchen, but definitely owe a blog post!

So since my last post (click here for a refresher!) lots has happened! Where we left off was this list

Complete mudding
Sand walls
Replace trim work
Paint shiplap
Paint ceiling
Get shelving replaced in pantry
Put on cabinet hardware
Make new interior milk door (IN PROGRESS!!)
Figure out transition from marble backsplash to shiplap (shiplap!?!)
Source material for open shelves
Update fronts of cabinet drawers for Coffee Bar to match new shaker cabinets
Install lighting (some of which still isn't here)
PAINT PAINT PAINT

I'm happy to report we can cross everything off except "install lighting" because we have sconces to go above the open shelves. We're waiting to have our electrician come back and work on a few things at the same time. (He also needs to hook up a toe-kick heater we added under the sink because there isn't a radiator in the kitchen and it can get chilly. We also have little projects in the living room and mudroom...)

Thank god the sanding and painting are done in here. The wall "color" is Benjamin Moore Classic Grey, and the rest is plain ole white off the shelf. I use "air quotes" because it basically looks white. There was a smidgen of a mix up when the paint was made. They scanned the sample instead of looking up the formula so it isn't exactly what its supposed to be. Sigh.  The whole story is a lot longer, and very boring so I'll spare you.

My mother in law has lots of tools and knows how to build cabinets so she made the door for the milk door! It came out perfectly and looks like it has always been there, which is just what we wanted!

The original hardware looks amazing!

We finagled a transition from the marble backsplash to the shiplap with a piece of louon plywood that was beveled to match. I'm glad that we didn't have to resort to a tile of something else. Louon is a thin plywood that you might be familiar with from hollow-core doors. As a refresher, we had an error in measuring when the stone company was here templating..we had the wrong piece of window trim (we had the top piece not the bottom) to measure. The backsplash was supposed to go to the bottom of the window trim. There was drywall there so a piece of shiplap would have been too thick. Thankfully we made it work!

We love how the open shelving came out!

We used 5/4" pine boards that I sourced at a local lumber company. We treated them with lemon oil and that was it. The brackets are from Home Depot, the Everbilt 10" x 8" Oil Rubbed Bronze Heavy Duty Bracket. Only $7.98 each! We found them in the garage organization section. They have the perfect industrial vibe we were going for and were way less than all the others we shopped. Plus, each pair is rated to support 1200 pounds! #thatsalottadishes

We put one of the shelves over the stove as well. We will use the same sconces for the sink side which we haven't installed yet.

The butcher block area is now complete! All of the cabinets have been updated to match the new shaker cabinets. My MIL took on that project and it came out great! I found this rusty stool at an antique show for $5. I sealed it with clear coat and am perfectly happy with it being this rusty rustic thing now. It really completes this area to have a stool here. The little basket below is for recyclables. I love using this area to prep food because it is so close to the stove. All our pots and pans are in these two drawers. It is really amazing how keeping this cabinet from the old kitchen gave us so much more storage...and switching our cabinetry to all drawers is totally where it is at people! Love love all the drawers.

We found this perfect little cart at a recent antique show and seriously could not be happier about it. It is bigger than the makeshift shelf we had, but makes the room feel bigger, not smaller! It is like magic. So much function! AND if it's in the way we just ROLL IT! Woot! This is handy for vacuuming, or if my husband and I are emptying the dishwasher together.

And finally, I just love the warmth and style this indoor/outdoor rug from Pottery Barn brings to the room. It is no longer available but they still sell very similar ones. And these new white floors are so amazing. Just brighten this whole room!

We couldn't be happier!

So I'll leave you with a few "before pics!" WOW. Look how far we've come!

xoxo jsm
